Written and directed by Eveshka Ghost, The Bastard Sword was one of those special pictures that let us dive headfirst into a world of legends, rogues, and reluctant heroes.

It’s the story of three very unlikely companions — a fighter, a thief, and a hermit — who must join forces on a quest to find a mythical sword said to hold the power to control minds. It’s grand...well "Grande", and it’s filled with the sort of sweeping fantasy spirit that we all grew up loving.

I play Tias, a young farmboy turned fighter, driven not by glory but by a genuinely noble heart. His hope is to claim the sword not for power, but to help lift his friend’s widow out of despair. His intentions are pure, but of course the quest is never that simple.

There’s competition, and that comes in the form of Mars, a sharp, cunning thief played by Martyn Eade, whose motivations are… let’s just say far less generous.

And then there’s Ulysses, portrayed by Seth Easterbrook. He’s a hermit who wants nothing to do with the sword or the trouble it brings, yet somehow finds himself drawn into the journey.

Between the three of them, you get friction, humour, and those small quiet moments where unlikely friendships begin to take root.

I describe the story to people as it being a bit like "The Good The Bad & The Ugly" but with a fantasy feel to it.

The film premiered at East Grinstead Cinema on December 5th, 2018, and went on to receive a theatrical release in the spring of 2019. What followed was four international awards, with particular praise for its score, and it found a place in IMDb’s Top 50 Longest Fantasy Films of All Time with an epic runtime of 3 hours and 2 minutes.

Looking back, The Bastard Sword stands as one of our boldest early adventures — a film built with heart, grit, and that old-fashioned love of storytelling and if it wasn't for the success of this film I think it's doubtful the other films would follow.
