Moments From A Forgotten Summer
2023
"Moments from a Forgotten Summer" is the first EP by Xander Phillips.
Released in 2023, this collection was originally parts of a movie script written by Phillips with the title "Forgotten Summer" each song is supposed to represent different scenes from the script and tell an overall story that would be added to over time. Instead it became its own set of songs and became almost a "taster" of a much larger project.
Each song represents a different protagonist telling their own personal story of a "Forgotten Summer".
Tonight Is All We've Got - Tells the story of two people forming a connection but know they will never be together as one of them is leaving that evening. One of them wants to give it a go, the other is more pesemistic. It's a metaphor for making the most of every oppertunity you have.
Petaluma Streets - Is a story about a guy who can't be with the one he loves, the girl "Daisy" was inspired by the main girl in the film that never was. Petaluma is also the town where "American Graffiti" and "Peggy Sue Got Married" were filmed and a lot of the influence of the "vibe" came from this.
The Beach In September - Was the first recorded song from the EP, and tells the story of "A guy and a girl and a place". The protagonist reminisces over the summer he had with a girl he loved once...(noticing a theme here?)
Echos Lost In Time - closes the album, the first line "I told her that I would write her a symphony" was the catalyst for the song, and like all of the other songs invites listeners on a nostalgic journey, exploring themes of love, loss, and the beauty of summer moments that over time we forget.
